33,160 PointsBristle Brush Question
When using the bristle brush in adobe illustrator I have noticed that if the brush stroke is from left to right the brush paints below the path line and if the brush stroke is from right to left the brush paints above the path line. Is there a way to set the bristle brush so that the brush paints with the path line in the middle?

Treehouse Guest TeacherDrew Butcher please refer to the brush settings where you can flip/flop the brush path.

33,160 PointsWhere do you find this option? If I double click on the brushes icon in the tools panel, then "Paintbrush Tool Options" appears and I have the option to change Fidelity, Smoothness, Fill new brush strokes, Keep Selected, or Edit Selected Paths. However, I don't see a "flip/flop" the brush path.

33,160 PointsYap, I have done that which is why I had the original question. When I set up a "Bristle Brush" the options are: Size, Bristle Length, Bristle Density, Bristle Thickness, Paint Opacity, and Stiffness. I have watched your video several times and I have played with all of these settings. After painting on the artboard I noticed that when you paint from right to left the brush paints above the path line, and below the path line when painting from left to right. I find this to be a little difficult when trying to paint accurately. It would be nice if one could adjust the paint line with respect to the path line like one can with the "Type on Path tool" using the "align to path" options of: Baseline, Ascender, Desender, Center. As seen in your video http://teamtreehouse.com/library/websites/illustrator-foundations/project-adding-color-and-type/type-tools at min 9:49.
Consequently, my question is: Is there a way to adjust where the paint appears in reference to the path line for a bristle brush, and if so how do you adjust this?
Many Thanks, Drew

Treehouse Guest TeacherOk Gotcha Drew Butcher ... Unfortunately no there isn't a way that I know of to alter the stroke to path placement. The bristle brush is designed to be as realistic as possible when it comes to brushes. With that said it works much better with a tablet. As for the left to right, right to left stroke positioning; I think its design that way to appear realistic.
Check out this image i captured. Notice the circle stroke/path is the same as the right to left left to right. It always lays the stroke outside the path. If you were using a brush the pressure of the brush it would be directly in the center where the bristles would flare out. Im assuming this is why the stroke is outside the path.
If you want a brush that is directly on the path try creating an art brush. Does this make sense?

33,160 PointsAww perfect!
Note: You must have drawn your circle counterclockwise to have the path on the inside. Try drawing it clockwise and you will see the path goes on the outside.
But your suggestion is really great. So I used the bristle brush style that I wanted and made a small swipe on the artboard, then selected that and used the transform tool to make it 10px by 10px. Then I dragged this 10px by 10px image into the brushes pannel and made that an art brush. In my opinion, this works better for someone who is just using the mouse and does not have a tablet.
THANK YOU!!!!!
