14,970 PointsBought domain and hosting with whois privacy - how did spammers get my email?
I went with the same company that has a partnership with Treehouse. I chose the option that hides my details on whois - but immediately afterwards I started to get emails from various people and companies, often explicitly from India, offering their services and insisting that I need to "register my domain with search engines".
I'm a noobie, it's why I am taking this course, how did they get my contact info? It's not on the web site.

you cannot make a domain completely private. How-ever your registrar can make the contact details to them in stead but for compliance they have to forward everything to you too.
With .co.uk
I know you can make it fully private providing you're not trading and selling goods/services.

Courses Plus Student 360 PointsDoes your web site have your e-mail on at all? Providing a link would save time.

14,970 PointsThe web site has absolutely nothing on it, it's a blank page. There must be some window into the domain registration or hosting process where people can see who has registered a page (it's not on the whois page).

12,795 PointsIf there's money to be made, someone will figure out a way to get their hooks into you. My old site has been up for years, and I've never been bothered by anyone before, but as soon as I added a Wordpress blog to it, the flood of emails started.

Courses Plus Student 360 PointsI've found your details, go to betterwhois.com
and search your domain and I get your outlook.my
e-mail address.

14,970 PointsWow Bradley thank you, and that is disappointing (the result). I guess GoDaddy shows that info too, now that I look at their search. I was using https://www.whois.net/default.aspx to check, and I guess that is junk.

14,970 PointsHi all, I got this taken care of after contacting the hosting company. It was my fault, I didn't click in the box for privacy protection. I thought I did. Oops.
