Am I the only one that really disliked the UX basics course?

I wouldn't say that I disliked it, but I wanted it to be more in-depth, as that's an aspect of web development that I'm particularly interested in. I also wish it would have talked about more than just Information architecture- particularly the actual nitty-gritty of designing for users and the fact that the key to it is being able to understand how other people see the world, not just yourself. I think since the instructor is so strictly an IA person herself, she couldn't get across just why UX is important in other ways.

What I keep telling people is that UX (& UI) is the fancy tech term for what the rest of the world calls functional design. It's all well & good to make your website all flashy & cool but no one's going to use it if they can't do what they want to do with it or find the information they need. UX is being able to make a website(/app/program/etc) easy to use, fully functional and look cool at the same time.

Ultimately, I'd love to see an entire UX track because I think it's a really important concept & is far more difficult to put into practice than people realize.

I actually found it very interesting... To the point that I am now working incorporating UX into the services I offer

I thought Lis Hubert did a fantastic job of informing me of a job I didn't really know existed. As well as explaining how and why such a service is vital and unknowingly in high demand.
