Alternative to layer comps in Photoshop?

Is using a program such as Balsamiq an acceptable alternative to building mock-ups and wireframes in photoshop? I'm sure it will depend on client preference, but if they are indifferent is there a pro and con of using the different programs?

For general presentation no there isn't a down side or an upside to using that program or any other for that matter. The issue comes in when sharing wireframes with other members of your team or with designers outside of your team that may not be able to read the file. So you'll need to consider that.

But as far as doing your wireframes, it honestly doesn't matter all that much what you use to make them. For instance a lot of us use Sketch for that task over Adobe products. In the end all that matters is that it gets done. :)
