Add comment vs add answer (Community)

Im maybe making a 'problem' about nothing but I dont get why u can add comments or add answers to a topic. And the unlogic thing I find about these 2 is that when someone gives a comment with the answer to the question it doesnt mark the topic as answered. Im new to coding and like to help others whilst helping myself as I also need to look for coding answers/solutions but I often open up unanswered topics just to see people already commented on it with the solution.

Am I missing some logic here?

Thanks in advance :)

Maybe if someone had an issue with there code but didn't add a snippet of it, someone can comment to ask for it. Then the proper answer is submitted in the answers section maybe.

Damian is correct. If you're responding with an answer to a question, it's best to put it as an answer, not a comment. Comments are great for followups to either an answer or the question, but often times you'll find answers as comments - which is one task us mods try to fix as we come across the, but it's no small task. But that is the logic.

It makes sense now and I had the assumption of how u both explained it but if u need to rely on mods 'fixing' everyone's posts as not everyone grasps the concept then the concept needs fixing in my opinion. Maybe it is unnecessarily 'complicated'.

Anyhow thanks for the answer, one day I'll come up with a coding solution to this ;D
