Acquiring New gTLDs and Indexation

I'm sort of seeking an answer to a question that I've not really found an answer to. Many times I've read from different blogs that Google will not treat the gTLDs any different from a .com. However, that doesn't seem to always be the case. I have one website .tips that was published 3-4 days ago and it's still not indexed. I know that sounds like it's not been enough time but I can remember my .com websites getting indexed nearly the same day. Google also seems to have a preference when assigning a vanity URL on Google Plus. Apparently they prefer the .com in most cases and usually award the name to a .com registrant.

I'm curious if Treehouse will be covering the new gTLDs that seem to have come out by the dozens just recently. I think that would be a nice topic to touch on in a blog post or in The Treehouse Show.

Professionally, I don't really have any thoughts or recommendations. New TLDs come out just as the sun rises and sets.

Personally, I bought quite a few, hoping that I can sell them. I own things like hipster.camera, css.technology, html.technology, gamer.equipment, imagination.land, and several others. I just bought 'em up as soon as the landrush hit. Time will tell if that was a waste (hint, it probably was). :)

I'm in the same spot as Nick Pettit here -- I don't have any professional recommendations. I would imagine that Google has a system in place to pick up and index new .coms as they come out. Perhaps they haven't gotten around to updating that for every TLD yet. You can probably use Google's Webmaster tools to have your site queued for indexing.

I've always used Webmaster Tools and they are in the queue actually. I know that .guru is getting indexed somewhat (because of popularity possibly) and of course .me finally came around, however I still don't see either of those having more or equal importance to a .com. I know that Twitter just got around to adding support for some of these domains in a profile. Maybe like Nick said, these new TLDs come and go and perhaps that's why Google hasn't given them much attention. Anyhow, I really appreciate the responses!

P.S. I'm also getting some strange DNS warnings with the .tips domain using CloudFlare that I've never seen with another TLD. Google is saying that it's having trouble indexing it even though it said the queue add was a success. CloudFlare tells me it's normal on their end and nothing I can change. SOA serial number errors and so forth.
