Access java methods in JQuery

hi.. how can I access the methods in Services in Query? for example in this project, i want to access the gifService to use the toggleFavorite method. So that I can mark/unmark favorite the GIF without refreshing using ajax or post in jquery.. is there a way or should I use API????? :) thanks :)
