About Directories

Dear Friends,

We use directories in order to organize our files and where to save its file.

The various options we have wth directories are: Open - Open an existing directory Close - Close an opened directory Delete - Delete a desired diredtory Create - Create a new directory Rename - Change the name of directory

Do you know if the following options are avalaible and what can we do: Read Link Unlink

Thank You

The answer might depend on which language you are programming in. Did you mean to post this in one of the language categories? You can click the little rectangle with 3 dots and "Edit Question" to change it.

When talking about directories, is about when you have created directory in the desktop and just right click (with the mouse) above the created directory. Then you have some options available regarding the directory/folder Open,Close,Rename,Delete,Read,Link,Unlink

However some of these options doesnt appear as you see in the photo. How can we make to view all available options regarding directories and if you know about Link & Unlink option. It's options we have, when have created a folder/directory in our Desktop .

It looks like you are using the Windows file explorer. In Explorer, "Open" and "Read" are the same thing, and done with the "Open" menu or just double-clicking.

And when you have only one link, "Delete" is the same as "Unlink". Creating additional links is not a feature supported by the Explorer. That can be done in the CMD interface, using elevated privileges and the MKLINK command.

You mostly answered your own question there! The link is what determines which directory the file appears in. If you have more than one, the same file (not a copy) can appear in more than one directory.

But I'm not familiar with "right click-Link", when I right-click a file in Explorer, I do not see a "Link" option. Where did you see this mentioned? Perhaps it was related to a different operating system.

Thank You for answer,

What do you mean when have one link? There is possibility to have more links? What is link?

Have read that with Link option a file can appear in more than one folder/directories. You choose the desired folder-right click-Link-and the files of selected folder will be copy-paste to all folders of your computer. This was mentioned about Link.
