A couple web design track problems

Hello all,

I ran into a couple of problems on the web design course that I want to see if anyone has any tips for how to overcome them.

The more important problem is that I can't upload the images I downloaded from the "Structure Image Gallary" lesson to my Workspace to put them in the document. I tried to do what Nick said in the video- to drag and drop the files from my computer to the grey bar beside the the workspace area where I am writing code- but I can neither do that for all of the images at once, nor for one image at a time.

I tried to right click on the grey area and to click on upload file to get around the drag and drop problem, but when the folder with my work opens, and I go to downloads where the images are, I double clicked on the zip file that I downloaded from the lesson notes and instead of taking me to the next page to show where I can see each picture listed in that folder, the window closes and an "img.zip" bar appears in the grey area after a few seconds (according to the name of the file that Nick uploaded to the lesson), but there are no pictures that I can see when I click on that bar.

I know I can upload my own images, and thus download images similar to the ones Nick put in the zip file because I uploaded an image that I have on my computer, but I cannot open any of the ones in from Nick's file.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what I can do about this?

The next problem is the one I ran into first but is a lesser problem because it doesn't affect what I'm doing, so I am describing it second. The situation is that when I went into work spaces I created an "index.html" tab to create the website that the course is teaching. I started building the website in the tab that was originally created beside the welcome tab becuase I couldn't see the material that I was making in the tab I created when I clicked the preview button, but I could see it if I worked in the tab that was originally created in workspaces. I went to delete the tab I created, and I know this is crazy but I deleted the one that was already there when I thought I went to delete the one I made. The problem that that caused is that when when I click preview to see the material I'm working on, it takes me to a page that only says "Index of/" in big bold type, and a link to what I have made in smaller letters, and that link is called "Index.html" - the same name as the tab.

I can see what I've done so far when I click on that link but is there any way

Does anyone how I can get back to seeing just the web page of what I'm working on to skip the "Index of/" page? I wish there was something I could do to fix my mistake, but I have a feeling it is something that will need fixing by the creators of Treehouse.

Thank you for bearing through all of this page to read about the problems I have. If anyone has any advice about what to do it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Iulia

Hey Lulia, I just opened the zip folder and drug the folder with the images onto my desktop. After you do that you should see a regular folder icon with those images inside. From there I highlighted the images and drug them into the workspace where he showed to drag them into.

Everytime I tried to do it while they were still inside the zip folder they would act like they were transferring but ended up not doing anything.

Did you try unzipping the images first? I had the same issue but I was trying to drag them over from the zip file. Once I unzipped them they transferred right over.

Hello Mike,

I didn't think of that, and thus, I didn't try it, but when I went into the downloads folder to take a look at the pictures, I double clicked on the img zip file which took me to two folders, one with pictures for a Mac and one with pics for Windows, and I clicked on the one for the PC. I could see all of them except on called .DS_Store that couldn't be opened by my computer, but I don't think it's a picture, and it wasn't part of the pictures Nick showed in the video. I didn't read the title of the first folder was pics for a mac when I clicked on it to see the pictures until I clicked out of that foler, but if I'm not mistaken, double clicking on the zip file from the downloads folder is enough to unzip the file, right?

When I got zip filed in an email before, I could choose to open the zip file or each document in it separately. I don't remember if there was a sign that came up that asked if I wanted to open the zip file when I opend the ones I received by email, and no sign came up that asked if I wanted to open the zip file when I clicked on it in the downloads folder, but I thought just to open it was to unzip it, although there was no image showing the file as open after I double clicked on it, but it doesn't matter, does it? And because it doesn't, I presume, that's what stumps me about this problem.

Thanks Mike! That worked just like you said. I was able to select multiple files when I right clicked on the gray area in workspaces and clicked upload files to upload them from the desktop section of the computer, but it was really easy to upload them once I moved them to the desktop.

Thanks again!

PS- I know my name looks like it starts with a lower case L when I spell it, but it really starts with a capital i, and to add to the confusion, the i is pronounced like a y, but it's ok, because a lot of people get that confused.

Not a problem. Glad I could be of help.

The L does look like an i. Lol. Sorry about that.
