23,118 PointsFor the purpose of understanding how to build a child-theme, no. Nothing has changed. You still need a child-theme folder, and a style.css that states the child-theme. The process for the file structure is still the same. The things that have changed is adding more of a modern workflow to building your sites, ie local dev environments, gulp, git, sass/scss, and some new/revised hooks and filters to hook into WordPress. If you are learning how to build a child-theme then no, its still the same process.
