SELECT SUBSTR(first_name, 1, 1) || " " || last_name AS initial FROM customers;
Says expecting results like "L Chalkley" not "L Chalkley". How is this not letting me through?

Treehouse Moderator 37,799 PointsYou are close Brian. You want to replace || " " || with a comma and move the as initial to after first name.
So something like: SELECT SUBSTR(first_name, 1, 1) AS initial , last_name FROM customers;
You are just trying to select the data. Not format it for display
