Hey everyone, my name is Jacqui. I’m a developer that made the jump to security and I am very recently started my first role in security as an Application Security Engineer Intern. I make time to learn by creating a habit of studying even if it’s only 20 minutes a day then build on that. I study at night and or on the weekends. My biggest tip is to keep that habit, so even if you can only do one task, video, a couple of minutes keep up the habit, and of course, take breaks. Breaks are necessary. I also like learning passively by listening to tech podcasts.

I’ve been working on scripting and hacking so there isn’t much visual I can show right now. Some of my favorite hobbies are watercolor, guitar, and roller skating.

I plan my study sessions around my day, usually the day before because although I have a pretty standard daily schedule, sometimes I can fit the time in the mornings while other days I can do it in the late afternoon. I use https://pomofocus.io/ to breakdown my sessions and keep it engaging for me and not burn out. A short session either morning or afternoon and then a longer session in the evening-early night. What are your tips for learning when busy?

Use a method that works for you to stay focused. If you have interruptions around you, set a time when your surroundings are quiet while also setting a good spot with ample lighting or appropriate ambience that promotes your learning. I use pomodoro counter to help make best time from short sessions, even if I can only devote 25 minutes, this means it is better than an hour with distractions. I would remove TV or cellphone distractions to maximize your focus.

Hello everyone!

When my day begins I use my planner to schedule out my time so that I can get in my studying. Some days change, but usually, it consists of a long morning session, a short break in the afternoon, and then another session towards the nighttime. There are days where I am busy and can't get in a long session, but I try my best to get at least 25-30min in whenever I can. Using a planner and organizing my time has helped me a lot, I would recommend it to everyone.

Some of my hobbies/interests include cooking, working out, and martial arts. When it comes to cooking, I love making "healthy" versions of popular fast food items. I can make the best Crunchwrap Supreme that you have ever had (but don't tell Taco Bell that).

Hi everyone.

You can call me Precious. So I began this year with a resolution to be more disciplined. One of the tools I chose is a Weekly To-Do list. Every Sunday I make a date of it and plan for my week. First, it revealed how much time I wasted in the past, and now it creates a structure to follow even when I'm busy. Of course life happens, but when I can help it my preferred time to take classes on Treehouse is in the morning after a workout and at night I practice learned concepts.

When I'm not coding I am writing non-fictional/fictional stories. I also make audio podcast narrations of them. In other words, I'm pretty much tied to my computer, so say a prayer for my eyes.

I don't force myself to study. If I feel like I need to take a break, I make sure to take a break because I also care about my health. When I care about my health I am more capable of doing my job.

When I'm busy I try to drop things that are not very important and I focus on the things that are most important.

I love learning languages because it connects us to people around the world. I've made a lot of friends learning languages and I will cherish those times meeting them. I enjoy the process of learning the languages and making impactful connections.

What are your tips for learning when busy? I happen to follow the pommodoro technique, inspired by a self-help book "Think and Grow Rich" in their self-confidence formula, they mention " I will concentrate my thoughts for 30 minutes daily upon the task of thinking of the person that I intend to become. Thereby creating in my mind a clear mental picture", therefore I have made a commited promise that I would not waste the opportunity presented to learn and improve on this skillset that I am interested in it. In order to learn when busy is separating a time slot daily within your schedule, which doesn't need to be long for you to advance, the important thing is that we take action-learn, practice- daily even if just for a short time.

Hello everyone!

Im currently in the works of learning HTML and CSS. My next language after will be JS, then eventually i'll be on my way to learning react. Through this journey, I try not to force myself to study for the sake of my health. Eventually, we all need to get up , workout, and even better smell the roses outside. This lifestyle can almost make us take outside for granted sometimes lol. Below, i've added a piece of my coding journey so far.

I started my coding journey three weeks ago as of tomorrow, Friday, June 25th. It has given me a breath of fresh air but has provided me with new routines that i've had to develop, which has made me feel uncomfortable at times. Since a kid, I always tell myself 'it's easier to give up than to succeed' because working hard takes focus, discipline, efficiency, determination, perseverance. No, we're not born with these qualities but we sure can develop them through being uncomfortable and through being single-minded at times when we need ourselves.

My name is Jamal. I currently work from home so I have all the time I need to learn however, I carve out a 4-5hr window from 10 am and I dedicated the following hours to my learning. I work best generally in the mornings, but in this time I have also learned that I work really well at night when the world is quiet.

One tip I would share for working when it is busy is, to split your training time into smaller chunks. I find working in smaller time frames makes it easier to really focus on particular subjects when it is busy.

Aside from coding, I enjoy cooking, travel and fitness as I train regularly.
