Changes made to the DOM by the script only affect the page inside the browser.

They are not sent back to the server and they do not update the HTML file stored there.

Permanent changes are usually done by two-way communcations to the server, updating a database there, and using the database when preparing the page to be displayed. These techniques are taught in other courses.
