What am I not seeing in my code that is an error?
class GoKart {
private String color = "red";
public String getColor();
{
return color;
}

You have it right, there's just a small syntactical error that you have.
You have a semicolon at the end for your method, and it's confusing the compiler.
Just remove the semicolon at the end of your method definition and your code should work just fine.
