The main area in Sketch where we do all
our drawing is the canvas.
0:00
And the canvas is infinite in size.
0:05
This means there's no fixed bounds or
0:08
dimensions giving you complete freedom on
how to set up your drawing area.
0:10
Moving around the canvas is simply done by
scrolling anywhere
0:15
when your cursor is inside the drawing
area using the MacBook's trackpad.
0:19
Alternatively, you can hold down the
spacebar on your keyboard and click and
0:25
drag on the canvas to move it around.
0:29
You can enable rulers by clicking on the
View icon in the toolbar and
0:37
selecting Show Rulers from the menu.
0:42
[BLANK_AUDIO]
0:45
These will appear along the left side and
the top of the canvas.
0:51
And they'll show you where your layers are
in the document.
0:56
Whenever you're working on a project in
Sketch, it's likely that you'll want to
1:01
zoom into your document in order to see it
in more detail.
1:06
Or perhaps zoom out, to see the entire
canvas.
1:09
This is something that is quite important,
so there are many ways to zoom in Sketch.
1:14
The most obvious way is by pressing on the
plus and
1:20
minus buttons next to the magnifying glass
icon in the toolbar.
1:24
The zoom level will multiply as you zoom
in and divide as you zoom out.
1:31
The maximum zoom level is 64000% and the
minimum is just 1.
1:37
You can also click on the icon or
1:43
hold down the Z key on your keyboard to
enable the tool.
1:46
1:53
Or hold option along with z and click to
zoom out.
1:56
As well as clicking to zoom in and out
with this tool, you can also click and
2:05
drag a box on the canvas whilst holding z.
2:09
That will zoom into the selection.
2:13
But my personal favorite option for
zooming is by using the keyboard.
2:16
It is done just simply by pressing Command
and plus to zoom in and
2:21
Command and minus to zoom out.
2:26
Press Command and zero to return to 100%
zoom.
2:29
Dont worry if you feel like that is too
much to remember.
2:34
You can access these commands and
2:37
see their shortcuts at the top of the view
menu in the menu bar.
2:39
It will quickly become second nature to
you
