Google PageSpeed is a family of tools that can help you analyze the performance of a website. PageSpeed can be installed to Chrome in the form of a plugin and used via the Chrome DevTools.

These tools can be used in a number of
different ways, but in these lessons,

we're going to install the page speed
insights extension for Chrome.

and like I mentioned there are several
different ways to use page speed but

we are going to analyze with Chrome.

And down here there will be a button that
says install Chrome extension.

So I'm going to click that.

button up here and then click add.

installed.

So let's click on that, and once the
analysis is complete

the extension will point out some problem
areas in the overview.

It can be difficult to optimize all of
these and make every item go away,

but that's not the goal.

Rather, you should just do the best you
can to eliminate as many as possible.

You'll notice that they're also
prioritized.

H means high priority, M is medium, and L
is low.

Focusing on the higher priority items will
give us the largest performance benefits.

So, let's take a look at some of these
suggestions.

Here it says, in-line small CSS.

So, if maybe we have some small JavaScript
on our site we can

instead of using an HTTP request, just
embed it directly into the HTML.

So that's a pretty good suggestion.

Then we also have a few suggestions that's
say minify.

that's telling us to use a process called

so we know where we're starting.

particular page load.

The 20 requests and 819 kilobytes will
always be the same, but

depending on network traffic and many
other variables that

are mostly beyond our control, we'll see
different page load times here.

but generally we wanna try to get this
