Hi, I'm Kenneth.
0:04
If you find yourself interested in using
Python for scientific pursuits, data
0:06
analysis, data science, computer vision,
or any of a number of other fields,
0:09
you're going to come across a bit
of software named Anaconda.
0:13
Besides being a clever pun on Python,
Anaconda is a large and
0:17
powerful platform that's heavily used by
science and data-oriented Pythonistas.
0:20
And it provides a ton of the tools
you'll use in those areas like Pandas,
0:24
Jupyter Notebook, and more.
0:28
In fact, that's why people
use the Anaconda platform.
0:29
It makes it faster and
easier to set up and install the tools and
0:32
libraries that you need
to do your science.
0:35
Another benefit of using a platform like
Anaconda comes out when you're working
0:37
with a team or need to share your
results with others in the community.
0:41
Using a standardized platform lets you
all easily replicate an environment and
0:44
set up quickly and reliably.
0:47
That means less time spent setting
things up and tweaking libraries and
0:48
more time for your science.
0:51
Beyond that though, Anaconda also
brings with it easier manipulation and
0:54
use of data sources,
a community of experts, and a lot more.
0:57
In fact, I won't even be able to scratch
the surface of all of the powers and
1:00
benefits that Anaconda can give you.
1:03
Luckily, you won't need all
of these to start with.
1:05
You'll just need to get
Anaconda installed.
1:07
And that's exactly what
this workshop is about.
1:09
We're going to look at how to
install the Anaconda platform.
1:12
How to use it to install packages and
1:14
libraries and
a smaller alternative version of Anaconda
1:15
that might be more useful to you if
you're not a day to day data scientist.
1:18
I'm gonna show you all the steps
you needed to do on a Mac, but
1:21
they'll be similar enough on another
platforms that you shouldn't have any
1:23
issues getting things running.
1:26
Let's get started
