                      All right, so,
how did your card-sorting exercise go?
                      0:00

I hope it wasn't too stressful, and
it shouldn't have taken you too long,
                      0:04

maybe 10, 15 minutes at the most.
                      0:08

Go ahead and grab your results,

because now we can compare what you did
to what Slack did on their website.
                      0:11

                      So, Slack took those 23
pieces of content and
                      0:17

                      organized them like this within
the footer of their website.
                      0:20

                      Their groups are Company,
Product, Resources, and Extras.
                      0:25

And feel free to pause and look them over
to get a feel for what they did here.
                      0:31

Now, if you didn't get these results,
that's completely fine.
                      0:36

Everyone will have a different set of
results because everyone's perspective is
                      0:40

                      a little bit different.
                      0:44

What I do hope is that you took
some of the similar pieces and
                      0:45

grouped them together in some way.
                      0:50

For example, Why Slack is all about the
features and benefits of using the app.
                      0:52

And that's a natural fit with
Customer Stories, as well as Pricing.
                      0:58

In the Company section, About Us and
                      1:04

                      Careers work together,
along with Press and Brand Guidelines.
                      1:06

And when you group together the Download
Page, Help Center, Guides, API and eBooks,
                      1:11

you've got a bunch of stuff that it's
all about educating or helping the user.
                      1:17

So Resources is a good name.
                      1:21

Now, some of you out there might take
issue with Extras as a category name,
                      1:24

                      is it lazy?
                      1:30

                      Is it vague?
                      1:31

I'm not a fan of it either.
                      1:32

It's like the junk drawer of links but
I get why they did it.
                      1:33

They took what was left and
they grouped them, but I would
                      1:38

have tried to come up with divisions
that put everything some place logical.
                      1:41

Personally I would have grouped Blog and
Podcast together somewhere, and probably
                      1:46

would have stuck the Gartner Report and
Slack Fund into the Company group.
                      1:52

                      Since Slack at Work lists
jobs with partner companies,
                      1:56

it might make sense to put it
in the group with Partners.
                      2:01

What might make a lot of sense is to have
a separate developer's group with API,
                      2:04

                      App Directory, Partners,
and Slack at Work together.
                      2:10

It might not be perfect, but I feel like
it makes more sense than what they've got.
                      2:14

                      Now, if you're Slack,
                      2:19

and you get get a series of card sorting
results like this, it can be helpful
                      2:21

                      to see the different prospectives
people have about your content.
                      2:25

You can see what they believe
the relationships are between pieces, and
                      2:28

how they'd group and label them.
                      2:33

So try your own card sort
with your own website, and
                      2:36

you may be surprised what you discover.
                      2:41
