In this video, you'll learn the importance of size and texture in design.
0:00
Let's get started.
0:05
Size is the quality of primary visual elements,
0:08
which we just went overβline and shape.
0:11
All elements have a definitive size,
0:14
which is its measurable form.
0:17
Scale is the difference between 2 objects
0:19
or in comparison to a standard.
0:23
Scale allows us to indicate if something is too small
0:26
or too large.
0:30
If we're referring to the harmony of 2 objects in comparison,
0:31
this is defining the proportion.
0:35
This is judged by the ratio of scale from one comparison
0:38
of 2 or more objects.
0:42
Size is always a cautious choice made by the designer.
0:44
Should it be scaled up,
0:49
and how will it compare to the other objects?
0:50
Will it be proportionate?
0:54
Size and scale play a huge role in design.
0:55
Next up, let's talk about texture.
0:59
Texture is the quality of feel, appearance, or consistency
1:01
of an object or objects.
1:06
Thus, every shape and line has texture.
1:08
There's implied texture, like with LEGOs.
1:12
Or there's visual texture, which is different than implied, as there is no touch.
1:15
One form of visual texture is pattern.
1:21
Pattern is simply a repeated decorated design.
1:24
Patterns are broken up into what we call a motif.
1:29
When we repeat a motif, we have constructed a pattern.
1:33
In this example, this design here would be the motif.
1:37
Then when that motif is repeated,
1:41
that's when our pattern is formed.
1:43
So, again, we have implied texture, like LEGOs.
1:46
And then we have visual texture,
1:51
which are broken up into motifs, which then create a pattern.
1:53
Next up, we have color, but before we jump into it, let's take a quick quiz.
