In this section,
we'll create an illustrated graphic logo.
0:05
Beginning with the sketch, we'll bring
it all the way to a finished vector
0:09
illustration with typography using
basic drawing and shape tools.
0:13
Before we get started on the logo,
0:19
let's go over some basics
on how to use the pin tool.
0:22
The pin tool is considered the most
important and valued tool in Illustrator.
0:27
It's going to allow you to draw lines and
shapes with absolute precision.
0:32
So let's go to our pin tool
in the tool bar over here.
0:38
The shortcut key for that is P.
0:42
Let's go ahead and expand this menu so
0:44
we can have it in front of us it's nice.
0:48
And so you know P is the pin tool.
0:52
This is the Add Anchor Point Tool.
0:55
Which is plus.
0:58
Minus is the Delete Anchor Point Tool.
0:59
And the Anchor Point Tool is Shift+C.
1:03
Also Option, while you're drawing.
1:07
Let's go ahead and start.
1:10
So to draw a line, let's hit down once,
that creates a point, which is a vector.
1:12
Hold down Shift,
that's gonna constrain our proportions.
1:20
And it constrains it to straight.
1:24
It also constrains to 45.
1:26
And you can see that now in
Illustrator CC it previews the path for
1:29
you, which is fabulous, so
I'm going to click down here.
1:34
And click off, you can click
off by going to another tool.
1:40
Maybe the selection tool, you can also
command click to deselect the object.
1:44
Okay so
now this time lets draw another line.
1:51
But we are going to draw a curve.
1:54
So a curve is gonna happen
where your anchor points are.
1:56
When you click down, click and hold and
2:01
drag and you're gonna have two
direction handles come out.
2:04
These are going to determine
the length and angle of your curve.
2:10
We can just keep drawing so
I'm going to click and pull and drag.
2:17
Oh, undo, I didn't.
2:19
So click and pull and drag.
2:22
2:27
So I'm just coming around and when I get
to my next point I'm pulling and dragging.
2:29
Okay.
2:36
And when I'm ready to close my shape off,
if you come up here you'll see that little
2:37
closer clip here so
that means you're on the anchor point.
2:41
And you can close your shape.
2:46
Fantastic.
2:50
If I wanted to remove a point,
I can hover my pen tool over any point.
2:52
And click once.
2:59
That would remove a point and hit undo.
3:02
If I wanted to add a point I just need
to hover my pen tool over the path
3:05
until the plus sign appears
I click once it's added.
3:10
If I want to edit that I can so
there are a couple of ways to edit points.
3:15
I want to go over to my
Direct Selection tool.
3:24
If you want to move individual points, I
recommend using the Direct Selection tool.
3:27
You can also use this to
move your direction handles.
3:32
Just kind of messing around here so
you can see how that works.
3:42
Another fun trick that's new to
CC is if you are drawing and
3:49
you hold down space bar when you're
closing your shape, hold down space bar,
3:54
it allows you to move that point which
is both your beginning and ending point.
3:59
So that's pretty rad.
4:05
And if I'm not happy with this curve,
I can go to my Anchor Point Tool.
4:08
Click on the anchor and mess with it.
4:14
So you can see with my Anchor Point Tool
or with my Direct Selection Tool,
4:18
I can click one handle Here.
4:23
>> So, that can be helpful
to sort of break that curve.
4:30
>> Last, but not least,
one of the coolest functions that is also
4:37
new to the pin tool, is if you have
the anchor point tool selected.
4:42
And you hover it over the path,
4:48
it gives you an option that you
can pull and curve this way.
4:50
Isn't that amazing?
4:56
So, next
4:57
we're going to play with the pencil tool,
and see what new features it has in store.
