In this video,
we will be learning about layers and
0:00
prepping our files for
the next step of building our wire frame.
0:02
To get started, let's go ahead and
go up to our Window, in our menu bar, and
0:06
choose Layers.
0:11
Cuz we want to open our Layers panel.
0:13
You can also hit F7.
0:15
In our Layers panel, you can see
that we have one layer: layer 1.
0:19
And within that layer, we have eight
different guides and our eight rectangles,
0:24
You can have as many objects
within a layer as you want.
0:35
It's a matter of sort of
grouping within that layer.
0:40
And as you work, you wanna try to
stay as organized as possible.
0:45
And we've just finished
creating our guides.
0:50
And so now, we want to lock this layer so
we can't alter it in the future.
0:53
And so we can move on to our next
step of designing the wireframe.
0:59
To rename this layer, we double-click
on layer 1, and we'll call it Guide.
1:05
And I'll click Off.
1:11
To turn the visibility on and
off on a layer, we have a switch here.
1:13
So you can hit this eye and that will
turn the layer off and then back on.
1:18
To lock a layer, which in this case
we want and that would mean that none
1:24
of these objects can move, so just as
an example if I try to move these now.
1:28
It works, no problem.
1:34
I'm going to Edit > Undo Move or
Cmd+Z a couple times to put that back.
1:36
And you can see as I hit
this lock toggle and
1:44
then try to do anything,
I automatically can't.
1:47
So that's perfect, that's how you want it.
1:50
And because we're going
to continue working,
1:55
we can't continue working
on a locked layer.
1:57
You must create a new layer, and then work
on that new layer that is not locked.
2:00
So, to create a new layer,
come down here in your Layers panel.
2:05
See where it says, create new layer?
2:11
And click.
2:12
And it will create a new layer for you.
2:14
And I held it down a little too long,
so it created two new layers.
2:16
Which is fine,
cuz I can show you how to delete a layer.
2:21
To delete a layer, you click and hold, and
2:25
then drag it down to
this little trash can.
2:28
And that's it.
2:31
So we're ready to go.
2:33
In the next step,
2:34
we will be beginning to design our
mobile wire frame, see you there.
